BODMAS RULE PART 2 |
Order of Operations (BODMAS Rule)
When a calculation involves a mixture of operations, the order of the operations is important. The mnemonics BODMAS can be used to help us remember the order.
1) solve the Brackets first
Say for Example 6 × (5 + 1) = 6 × 6 = 36
2) Of or expOnents (pOwers, rOots) before multiply, divide, add or subtract
Say for Example A) 5 × 2^3 = 5 × 8 = 40 B) 45 + 35 of 2 = 45 + 35 x 2 = 45 + 70 = 115 (OF means Multiplication)
3) Divide or Multiply before you add or subtract
Say for Example A) 2 + 5 × 4 = 2 + 20 = 22 B) 8 - 4/2 = 8 - 2 = 6
4) Add or Subtract the remaining terms ultimately
Say for Example A) 2 + 5 × 4 = 2 + 20 = 22 B) 45 + 35 of 2 = 45 + 35 x 2 = 45 + 70 = 115 C) 8 - 4/2 = 8 - 2 = 6
How to Remember this Order of Operations ? BODMAS !!
B - Brackets First
O - Orders (i.e Of , pOwer , expOnents)
D - Divide
M - Multiply
A - Add
S - Subtract
Note : After you have done "B" and "O", just go from left to right doing any "D" or "M" as you find them. Then go from left to right doing any "A" or "S" as you find them.
